Apple’s ‘Spectacularly Speedy’ Event: What to Expect From the New iMac and MacBook Pro
Apple is all set to host its ‘Scary Fast’ event on October 30 (October 31 at 5:30 AM IST in India) and as the event nears, speculation about what to expect is mounting. The event is expected to be Mac-centric, now that Apple has already released the iPhone 15 series last month in September.
Let’s consider what we can expect from Apple during the event and what industry insiders claim. First, reports suggest that there will be no new iPads at this event, as Apple did not update the lineup as previously rumored. Instead, we saw the new Apple Pencil with USB-C charging. Despite the fact that Scary Fast is expected to be a Mac-centric event, here’s everything you should expect:
New iMac with M3 chipset
The 24-inch iMac hasn’t seen an update in over two years since its launch in 2021 alongside the M1 chipset. The move to the M3 chipset is expected to breathe new life into the 24-inch iMac. While the M1 chipset remains valid, a newer and more powerful chipset such as Apple’s M3 could be ideal for an upgrade. If Apple does indeed introduce the M3 chipset, it would mean skipping the M2 series in the iMac.
Additionally, as noted by MacRumors, the new iMac’s stand may also feature some improvements, according to Mark Gurman. Apart from these changes, however, it is expected to offer a similar design, screen and size to the outgoing iMac model.
New MacBook Pro – 14 inch and 16 inch
Although Apple recently updated its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models earlier this year, an update with new internals is expected alongside the iMac. Mark Gurman mentions that this move “would be unusual, but not impossible.”
It’s unclear what other updates Apple might bring to the new releases besides performance improvements. However, according to a DigiTimes report, Apple may use miniLED displays (similar to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro) in the new MacBooks. However, this should be taken with a grain of salt until Apple confirms it.
Switch to USB-C for accessories
Now that the iPhone 15 series has moved to USB-C, Apple may move its accessories such as the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard to USB-C. Currently, these accessories still come with the Lightning connector, and USB-C would help Apple users use a single USB-C cable to charge all their devices and accessories.
